As a result of phenomenal growth and ongoing expansion - as well as Brexit -, we are now looking for a Compliance Specialist & DMLRO based in Brussels to assist the Compliance Officer and support Ebury’s growth and ensure it continues its journey seamlessly without any disruptions in Europe even after Brexit to work alongside the UK Compliance team, reporting directly to the Global Head of Compliance and MLRO.

The main purpose of this role is to maintain the integrity of the Belgian License, ensuring adherence to legislative requirements and support the company with its passporting regime to continental Europe. In addition, this role will provide oversight of the regulatory compliance requirements, implementing this into policies and procedures and keeping them up to date, as well as overseeing the Belgian entity’s financial crime regime locally, and supporting our training and development program.

What we are looking for:

We are looking for a self-driven Regulatory and Financial Crime Compliance Specialist who has gained at least 2 years of relevant experience within the financial industry in regulatory (PSD2, MIFID, etc) and AML compliance, and someone who has the ability to take ownership of parts of a Compliance framework in a fast-paced Fintech environment and keep driving this forward. The person must demonstrate proven organizational and time management skills, have excellent communications skills (both written and verbal), with the ability to gain credibility fast and influence key stakeholders.
The working environment is fast paced, agile and highly results orientated so the individual must be comfortable working within this type of highly rewarding, dynamic environment. In addition, the individual must be comfortable with working autonomously, have relevant Compliance/Legal qualifications and a good level of commercial awareness. It will be pivotal to have good interpersonal skills to interact with the local regulatory bodies as well.

Key Responsibilities are, but not limited to, assisting the Compliance Officer in:

  • Driving the Compliance framework of the Belgian entity and ensure that after Brexit the customer experience remains the same high level as it is when servicing happens out of the UK
  • Supporting the team with regulatory issues 
  • Helping to implement regulatory reporting and execute them 
  • Implementing all regulatory and legal requirements and changes from local Regulators 
  • Developing and maintaining relevant parts of the compliance framework (AML/CFT and Regulatory Policies) Liaising closely with the Group Compliance (London) to ensure that compliance policies and procedures are consistent with company policy 
  • Liaising with local Regulators, Financial Intelligence Units and other administrative bodies
  • Help improving the operational compliance processes based on the local policies (liaise with the MLROs and local ops teams)
  • Provide ongoing training about the products and ensure the sales team is continuously monitored for the regulated activities
  • Keep abreast of circulars/recommendations from the Regulator and continuously ensure that the Entity’s policies and procedures adhere to these
  • Review and report Suspicious activities (both internal and external)Audit the first line of defense procedures and processes Attend regulatory forums and industry meetings to keep up to date with industry standards
  • MIFID certification is a pré
  • And last but not least, being able to take over the Compliance Officer & MLRO duties when necessary
