We are looking for an Employee Relations Specialist to join our team. This is a newly created role with a focus on supporting all aspects of employee relations in the UK with the scope to take on a global mandate. We offer the opportunity for flexible working and a hybrid working model.

The Role:

  • You will be the lead on all matters relating to providing expert support and advice to HR and business clients on (mainly UK) ER matters, employment practices and casework including disciplinary, grievance, performance management, ill-health, modifications, investigations etc, reducing reliance on third party legal advisors and HR Business Partners.

  • You will also provide line managers and employees with professional, comprehensive, and timely advice and support, ensuring that the service provided is consistent.

  • Work closely with broader HR and our legal team to expertly guide, support, and implement change initiatives by supporting colleagues and managers with transfers, reorganisations/restructures (including meeting information/consultation requirements), plus undertake broader project work as required.

  • Build organisational capability in managing ER matters by educating/training managers and HR colleagues in ER processes, practices, and legislation.

  • Lead and contribute towards proactive measures that advocate a best practice approach when managing people issues.

  • Develop excellent working relationships with HR Business Partners and leaders (Sales and non-Sales) providing robust advice and support on all aspects of employee relations in line with policies and procedures, employment law and best practice.

  • Collaboratively with the wider HR team to ensure better integration of the team, sharing of information and knowledge to deliver a seamless service.

  • Actively participate in projects developing new ER processes and other process improvements.

  • This is a highly responsible role and you must have excellent legislative knowledge to enable robust advice to be provided to the senior leadership team globally. The successful candidate will likely be CIPD qualified, previous experience of working within an international setting is desirable, and supporting sales workforces.

  • On a personal note, you will have a good understanding of employment law, including GDPR legislation, and be confident in supporting senior leaders in managing sensitive and challenging casework. You will be a natural communicator and can bring solutions effectively, be an effective coach through supporting Senior Managers and providing them with the tools to resolve cases on their own merit.

Candidate profile:

  • Up to date and very good knowledge of UK employment legislation. International employment law knowledge is desirable.

  • Our HR infrastructure is basic (however this is changing quickly) and we’re creating an entrepreneurial culture across the HR team, so a roll your sleeves-up and pragmatic mindset is essential. Someone who enjoys being in their comfort zone will struggle.

  • At our heart, we are a sales-driven financial services business with over 50% of our employees working in the Front Office. This environment demands a robust mindset, an outcome-driven focus, business acumen, and strong interpersonal skills from all those in the HR team to actively consult and influence business leaders.

  • There’s plenty of ambiguity across the business so we need individuals who excel in environments that lack structure but at the same time enjoy establishing and building clarity. Strong written and verbal communication skills, an affinity with data, attention to detail and accuracy are essential.

  • The business operates at an incredible pace (on occasions, too quick) so we need individuals with drive, hunger, and ambition but at the same time, they have the confidence, experience, and capability to know when to diplomatically challenge as well as think ahead a few steps.
